"Art is the imposing of a pattern on experience, and our aesthetic enjoyment is recognition of the pattern."
There are patterns apparent in the way we approach life. Patterns of speech classify us into different categorical identities, while patterns of behavior are the substance of our lives. I argue that life is, in fact, a system of patterns that change us and change with us.
This project is an aesthetic meditation on patterns, in particular, their ephemeral and organic nature. A pattern here is made of components, each with its own life span. The pattern is ever renewed through the birth of new components to replace old, dying ones. In the end, we see pattern systems emerge, live, perish, and give birth to other systems.
Exhibited in the MinD City Dialogue exhibition in March 2011.
